China-made office stationery not favoured in VN any moreVietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese housewives tend to buy books and learning aids made by domestic producers for their children, instead of China-made products, which were once favoured by Vietnamese pupils.
According to Truong Quang Luyen, Marketing Director of the Hong Ha Office Stationery Company, in August alone the company’s sales were five or six-fold the previous months.
The owners of office stationary shops on Ly Thuong Kiet and Nguyen Thai Hoc streets all said that locally made products were selling well, 70% of which were made by Hong Ha.
In terms of notebooks for pupils, Hong Ha holds 80% of the domestic market, while it holds 15-20% of the market share in other products.
This year, Hong Ha has marketed new types of school bags, which are being sold for VND25,000-100,000/unit. Mr Luyen said that sales have been very satisfactory, though the products are a bit more expensive than Chinese ones.
Ladoda has also become a well-known name in the market. The company’s school bags made by the company account for 30% of the total sales of the product in Hanoi.
Besides the big companies, other small establishments, like Hoang Anh, Mai Ha, have also marketed many products, bringing more choices to customers.
Wholesalers at Dong Xuan market said that China-made products were not favoured in Vietnam any more. Vietnamese customers tend to use Vietnam-made products, because they are better quality, though the prices are higher. Those, who want to buy cheap products now prefer Saigon-made products to China-made ones.
